More power, bigger wheels, more iron, more grease, make it bigger, make it hotter, make it faster, the engineering advances made by the Victorians were amazing.  Railings for dogs to hang from are a modern invention – far from keeping people away from them, they used to send the kids under the machines to keep them working.
